Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease common in Islamic boarding schools, associated with personal hygiene, environmental sanitation, shared use of personal items, and peer support. This study analyzed the relationship between these factors and scabies incidence among students at Darul Ilmi Islamic Boarding School, Banjarbaru, using a cross-sectional design. A sample of 99 respondents was selected from 132 seventh-grade male students via simple random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed with univariate and bivariate (Chi-Square) methods at α = 0.05. Most respondents had poor personal hygiene (43.4%) and poor environmental sanitation (52.5%); item-sharing was mostly moderate (35.4%), while peer support was mostly good (35.4%). Scabies was found in 45.5% of respondents. Personal hygiene (p = 0.001; OR 10.20), environmental sanitation (p = 0.003; OR 3.48), item-sharing (p = 0.005; OR 4.88), and peer support (p = 0.002; OR 6.74) were significantly associated with scabies incidence. These findings indicate hygiene, sanitation, item-sharing, and peer support jointly contribute to scabies risk.
